What Happens After Black is Beautiful?
12/23/24
Blessing to all of my people. It has come to my attention that there are many movements here or there on Al Gore's blessed internet. So I thought I'd ad d my own voice to all the chaos. We as Black people have realized that Black is Beautiful, but has everyone else? How long do we wait for other folks to acknowledge what we already know to be true.
Now I can already hear your thoughts, "Amir, I don't care what those other people think about us!"
I desperately want to believe you. I really do think that some of you out there do not care about what other racial groups say about our people, but the truth is that what they think and say about us effects us in some way, shape or form. Even if you don't know it.
What is "Black is Beautiful"?
It's a statement that turned into a movement in the 1960s. Americans of African descent wanted to counteract the ongoind media narrative, that being black was synonymous with being ugly and undesirable. Whereas being white meant being the opitme of bueaty. Now after almost 60 years it is time to decide on if it was a success or a failure and put it out to pasture.
What does that mean?
If it was a failure, then that's okay. Not every movement is destined to become a success. Or else we'd all be collectively in a better place.
If it was a success then, great! What's next?
The Truth?
I think in reality, the answer is a mixed bag. When I say "Black is Beautiful" most people know what I mean. The problem is that a lot of people do not believe it. Deep down in their hearts. As Black people we MUST believe it. It's about us and even then there are some among us who deep down think that Black is by default, unattractive. Hopefully that can change in the future.
What about other racial groups?
The re-election of Donald Trump has jumpstarted the White supremacist movement. It had never gone away contrary to popular White talking points, but it is there. They celebrated a Blonde-haired Blue-eyed white woman winning Miss Universe because they feel like the world is returning back to "Normal" which for anyone who's worth their salt knows is code for "Racist".
We, as American-Africans, must declare that we will fight against a normalcy that does not include our interests. We deserve to be here just as much as any European Americans. It's time to move forward and leave behind anyone who doesn't already know that Black is beautiful. If they don't get it by now then they will always be skeptical.
Let's move on to the Black is AMERICAN movement. We are Americans and we are of African descent. Let's define what that means, together.
Peace and Blessings,
Amir Nasser
